  WE NEED YOU!!!

20 New Homes

+ 20 Wells

+ 20 Septic Systems

+ 20 Boats and/or Jet Skis =

Goodbye Countryside!

  (Proposed “Jamesville Grove Estates”)

1st Phase = 8 houses      2nd Phase = 12 houses

   April 19th may be the

LAST CHANCE

 for public comment!

Concerns of neighboring property owners:

1.       Rapid ecological decline of the reservoir – water turbidity, decrease in overall depth, decrease in fish and wildlife (duck, salamander, frog)  populations, farm runoff along Butternut Creek, silt deposits at the mouth of the creek, shoreline erosion, proliferation of weed beds, zebra mussels. Potential negative impact on an already endangered species of Indiana brown bats.

2.       Impact on wells along Route 91 and on the hillside above it - Many homes are already drawing sand during the summer months; many others already have inadequate water volume.

3.       Currently unsafe boating situation.  Reservoir is too small to warrant regular attention by the sheriff’s department’s limited resources.  No guarantee that a public boat launch won’t be built in the future. Nothing to prevent the launching of an unlimited number of additional jet skis as the waterfront now exists.

4.       20 homes with 20 wells and 20 septic systems leave the reservoir vulnerable to future exposure as these systems deteriorate with age.

5.       Increased traffic, noise and congestion.

6.       History of unresponsiveness by both our state and local government agencies in the preservation and restoration of the reservoir despite many appeals by residents over the past 25+ years.

7.       This is just the beginning…Developers are exerting increasing pressure on the LaFayette Town Board and LaFayette Town Planning Board to relax existing zoning restrictions.  If you love LaFayette for its rural setting and lower taxes, now is the time to contact the Town Board and the Planning Board.  The existing cul-de-sac regulations allow for public input – ask them to not be pressured into taking your voice away!

Town of Lafayette officials seem sensitive to our concerns,

but community input is needed!

Due to the potential negative impact of this development on the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the Jamesville Reservoir, and the surrounding area, including the County Park:

1.       Ask the Town of LaFayette Planning Board to deny the developer’s application for a zoning variance in regard to the length of his proposed cul-de-sac. Without this variance, the density of the development must be greatly reduced. Ask them not to change the law for the benefit of this outside developer!

2.       The developer has submitted his DEIS and the Planning Board has accepted it as complete. The Jamesville Reservoir Preservation Association (JRPA) has many experts reviewing the DEIS. We have many concerns that we will be addressing in our written comments. Written comments are due to the Planning Board by April 14th.

3.       Public hearing is Tuesday April 19th @ 6:45 p.m.! It is imperative that we have a large showing at this and all subsequent meetings until this is resolved. Please sign in as JRPA. The Planning Board is having this hearing because the developer has changed his initial application greatly. Show your support of the Reservoir and Community and express your concerns! Attend this public hearing!!!

4.       Do you want to live in a congested, high-taxed area like DeWitt, Cicero, or Clay, or in an area that is rural and serene?  The town is receiving increasing pressure from outside developers.  Let your government officials know how you feel about the spread of suburbia into rural LaFayette!!

What you can do...

1.    Attend the Town of LaFayette Planning Board meeting on April 19 @ 6:45 and on the 3rd Tuesday of each month until this issue is resolved. Next to your name write JRPA.

2.    Express your concerns by letter, phone, or email.

"The Grove Estates" development update 2/19/05

While there were no archeological findings on lots # 3-10 and NYS OPRHP (SHPO) has no objections to construction taking place in Construction Phase 1 of the project area. We believe that the SEQR cannot be segregated... We have been told this by several attorneys...  Robert Germaine has spoken to Mr. Langley, the Towns attorney and is writing a letter with our concerns...

Our fight is not nearly over...

On March 1st there will be a special hearing of the planning board @ 7:00 p.m. to discuss the DEIS that was submitted... At this time the town will make a determination if it is complete or not and if they will accept it ...

After it is accepted we have 30 days to present our side...

I know it's been a long time since I last updated this page, but that doesn't mean that the board hasn't been working very hard.

Since our last update:

~ Jeffrey Cohen and the "Grove Estates" is in the process of doing a phase 1 archeological study of the "Grove". We are awaiting the completion of this study to see if the next phase will be done. Also, Mr. Cohen has not yet submitted his final DEIS to the town planning board. We would still like to encourage you to attend the planning board meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

~ We have been contacting our Government representatives trying to get the funding needed to complete the Army Corp. of Engineers recommendations regarding the dredging and water quality of the Reservoir.

~ We are in contact with the DEC regarding the Indiana Bats and their summer roost in the Southern end of the Reservoir.

~ We are working very hard on many issues that effect our quality of life in the Jamesville Reservoir Community.

~ Should you have any questions on the work your board is doing for you please feel free to contact anyone of us.
